Russia, which is a permanent member state of the United Nations Security Council, has just vetoed, in the light of its logic, a resolution of this institution which deplored its “aggression against Ukraine” and asked it to withdraw “immediately” its troops from this country. It was Friday, February 25, about 48 hours after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The text of the resolution, co-authored by the United States and Albania, nevertheless received 11 votes in favour against 3 abstentions (India, the United Arab Emirates and China, which has also indicated that it is opposed to any sanctions against Russia).
