The UNESCO UNITWIN Network on Inter-Religious Dialogue for Intercultural Understanding (IDIU), established in March 2006 has been renewed until 30 June 2026.

IDIU brings together more than 28 UNESCO Chairs from more than 25 countries to promote dialogue among different religions, spiritual, and humanistic traditions in a world where conflicts are increasingly associated with religious belonging. Professor Fethi Mansouri will continue to serve as the Coordinator of the Network.

On 6 September 2021, our UNESCO Chair on Comparative Studies of Spiritual Traditions, their Specific Cultures and Interreligious Dialogue (St.Petersburg, Russia) took part in International Religious Forum, which took part in the city of St.Petersburg, Russia.

Approximately 150 religious leaders and scholars from Russia, EU, USA, UK, countries of Central Asia, Arab countries and Indonesia took part, both in person and virtually, in the rally, which was dedicated to Spiritual Activities in Times of Pandemic.

Our chair was represented by D.Spivak, who gave an invited talk on Interfaith Dialogue in Times of Pandemic in UNESCO strategy.

This conference, on “Sung Resistance: Songs of Resistance to Apartheid in South Africa”, is organized on the occasion of Nelson Mandela International Day (2021 Edition). Its purpose is to honour all the artists who have contributed to freeing humanity from the apartheid system, one of the worst crimes against humanity during the twentieth century.^è century (cf. Resolution 3068 XXVIII of the General Assembly of the United Nations of 30 November 1973).

After the unprecedented growth in higher education in the last decade, the education of more than 220 million tertiary students was suddenly disrupted due to the COVID-19 driven university closures. Currently, most of the universities around the world are preparing for safe reopening by altering their normal schedules and organization at the institutional or national levels.  However, due to the uncertainty and the rapidly changing situation in relation to the pandemic, limited data on the current situation at the global level are available.

The Section for Higher Education has conducted the survey entitled COVID-19: Reopening and Reimagining Universities and would like to thank all National Commissions for their participation in this worldwide effort to collect data about the current situation of the higher education system at national and global levels.

In order to disseminate the result of this survey, UNESCO is organizing a webinar aiming at highlighting some of the key findings of the survey and provide higher education stakeholders, including not only policymakers, but also universities and students with the opportunity to share their perspective and experience of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNESCO is pleased to invite all Chairs and UNITWIN networks to attend this webinar and encourage them to disseminate the information regarding this event through their respective Chairs Program and networks, including universities and students.

The webinar will take place virtually on Wednesday, 30^th June 2021 from 2pm to 5pm (CET – Paris Time), with simultaneous interpretation in English and in French.
