IRAQ – Center for Countering Hate Speech

The Center for Countering Hate Speech was co-founded by UNESCO Chair on the Development of Inter-Religious Dialogue Studies in the Islamic World, Dr. Hassan Nadhem, and the Masarat Foundation for Cultural and Media Development in Baghdad, which was supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. The agreement of this center was signed by a number of Iraqi institutions such as Dar Al–Ilm (Al–Khoei Institute) in Najaf, the faculty of Islamic Sciences and Political Science in, University of Baghdad, this center represents diverse Iraqi’s from various religious and ethnic doctrines. The Center undertakes training workshops for youth and university students to teach peaceful and academic ways to monitor, analyse, dismantle and address political, religious and media hate speeches. More than 800 individuals were scheduled to be trained in 2018. The UNESCO Chair will train 25 university students to address hate speech. Read more
