As the UNESCO led International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013 – 2022) reaches its halfway point, UNESCO is reflecting on how its work on intercultural dialogue can be rendered more evidence-driven and responsive to the needs of Member States.

Professor Fethi Mansouri, UNESCO Chair for Comparative Research in Cultural Diversity and Social Justice attended the UNESCO Expert Meeting from 5-6 December 2018, held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. He is part of an expert group on the project ‘Measuring Intercultural Dialogue:
Strengthening data to enhance impact on the ground’. He presented on a current and ongoing research that is developing an Intercultural Dialogue (ICD) Index. This research is housed at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation in Deakin University. This Index will measure both the conditions that enable intercultural dialogue to be mobilised effectively, and its impact on achieving key development and security objectives.

On 7 December, Professor Mansouri was also part of an expert group working on a concept paper for the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue to be held in Baku in 2019.
